This applies to the Skype version on Windi.e., the May 2020 update. The desktop app is long gone and this particular version doesn’t have a setting that can prevent it from running on startup. The Skype version on Windows 10 is the UWP app. It also tends to start when you boot the system. Skype is installed on a fresh Windows 10 installation by default. This means that you’ll be seeing a lot of Skype whether you want to or not. Uncheck that box, click “Save” on the bottom, quit Skype and you shouldn’t have it bother you next time you start up your computer.Microsoft owns Skype, and it owns Windows 10. Any one program likely doesn’t have that much impact on your performance, but when you get 4, 5 or more starting up automatically, that’s going to have an impact on how your computer works. For some, it’s almost impossible to figure out what they do and some of those might well be malware of some sort of another. Worse, many of them are hidden behind-the-scenes, little “helper apps” that enable certain functions, listen for incoming queries, etc. Whether you’re on a Windows system or a Macintosh, there’s little more frustrating than the parade of apps that seem to start up every time you boot your computer.
